How Army / Marine Corps ranks of workers and what happens to a person for promotion?
I asked myself, I never I understood how it worked.
Both are similar - more similar than any of the other branches. Both "Soldiers" lines and "official" lines. Committed is E-1 (private) through E-9 (Sergeat mayor), and O-1 (Lieutenant) Throug 0-9 (general). When you "GET", you are enrolled. When ROTC is chosen, you are "responsible" (an official). If you have written, there are ways to become an officer. Usually, you just a diploma degree (requiring a custom), and candidates go through OCS (Management School). In war, you can gain promotion to the battlefield, which is given in the terrible time when an employee is required to function as a unit. To get a promotion, the Army and Marine Corps both have a limited number of positions open in the following range for field positions. So if you're a bit of infantry, which can be 400 sergeants open this cycle. You're like a soldier of the overal results / Navy joined cons various scales to calculate whether you qualify for the next rank. Believe me, there's really not much rhyme or reason to how it works - that just sorta "I hope all these efforts and you get a pay bump.
