Can anyone help me with information on the wars in 1861?

I found an ancestor in the census of 1861 "patient Stoke Damerel, Devon, appears as "private'', so I guess that was recovering from injuries sustained in a fight and I was in the army - but not the details B. It was the regiment, etc. 1836 at Halton, Bucks, so I am concentrating research efforts on the regiments local Bucks & Oxon. However, I am a bit stuck and can not find major conflicts around this time (except the United States and China and the Zulu War) - perhaps still in the hospital before? Went to Stokenchurch, Oxon, in 1851 census 14 years as a Boy plow. Any ideas gratefully accepted! Note: I researched in the search engines white, genealogical sites and regiments in Bucks & Oxon - no real information.

1853-1856 Crimean War has been such as could be. I would say was simply an accident. I can not find a war that we might be he was injured to maintain an online native colony. Or, more likely armed with more deaths at the time was the disease of tuberculosis can not be sick, smallpox, measles, mumps, cholera, etc., etc..
